Assignment
Part I: The Written Report
Scenario
The district has hired five new principals and you are one of them.  Congratulations! The superintendent calls you into a meeting during which she informs you that the previous principals were managers who did not employ “site-based” management.  As a newly hired leader, you are pleased to hear that the state legislature passed a bill establishing an Educational Advancement Fund for public schools to help them improve.  Your campus received $500,000. The funds will be distributed over a two-year period.
The superintendent informs you that the funds will be available October 1 and must be spent during the fiscal year the funds are provided.  This is your first year as principal.  You are told that each principal is required to work with the Site-based Decision-Making Committee to develop a shared vision of the school.  In reality, several SBDM meetings would have taken place prior to making recommendations.
During next month’s School Board Meeting, each principal will demonstrate their leadership abilities in effectively promoting continual and sustainable school improvement.  The windfall budget is a hot topic and each principal is expected to detail how the funds will be used to improve the school.
The superintendent, a graduate of Midwestern State University, reminds you that your EDLE 5643 School Business Management class should provide an excellent background for successfully completing the project.  You are reminded that the presentation to the board will be limited to a written report between 1000 to 1500 words following the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th edition guideline and an audio/visual presentation between 10 and 15 minutes.  You will present your finding(s) and recommendations to the School Board in the form of a 15-minute audio and visual presentation.  Since you are a first-year principal, you are really glad that you have a Site-based Decision-Making Committee to help in the development of the plan.  Many of the committee members will be at the Board Meeting to offer moral support.  You have worked well as a team with the best interest of the school and community at heart.

Part 2: Audio and Visual Presentation
The presentation should contain 10-12 slides.  Introductory and data slides are required in the 10-12 slides.  The introductory slide should contain the campus’ name, demographics, and accountability rating.  The data slide must contain pertinent data pertaining to your presentation.  The presentation may be created and recorded using any of the following programs: PowerPoint, Prezi, Emaze, Screencast-o-matic, YouTube, SlideDog, Powtoon, GoAnimate, Articulate Presenter, Slideshare, Focusky, SlideBean, or CustomShow. You are also welcome to use another audio/video presentation program.
Note: Please use the free trial version of the applicable programs.
Shared Vision Budgetary Report Guidelines
When making decisions about the school, it is important to seek the input from key representatives. Parents, teachers, administrators, community, and business members are all key representatives for a Site-based Decision-Making Team.
The primary sources of information for this project Campus Improvement Plan, School Website, Accountability Ratings, School Report Cards (any data source related to your school performance).  Your goal is to address the allocation of the windfall funds, using the required data resources for support.  Analyze the most recent Accountability Ratings for your campus (or adopted campus) to address each task.  The components of the Campus Improvement Plan to focus on are Academic Performance, Student Engagement, Staff & Parent Climate, and School Safety.  Be sure to include specific data and examples where they are appropriate.
*The tasks below will serve as an outline of things to include in your written report and powerpoint presentations. Note-This is a what if scenario and you do not have to conduct actual SBDM meeting but create your report has how you imagine it might happen or how you would like it to happen.
Task 1:  Develop a shared vision statement for the campus based on areas of need as evidenced in the Accountability Ratings data and Campus Improvement Plan.  Describe the process the SBDM committee used and why specific components were selected for inclusion in the vision statement. (NELP 1.1, 1.2, 3.1)
Task 2: What communication strategies will be employed to build shared ownership in the vision statement that embraces the analyzed data related to the school’s goals, organizational effectiveness, and the implementation of the plan to attain the goals?  (NELP 1.1, 1.2)
Task 3:  Describe the process for aligning and managing personnel, financial, and technological resources to ensure that the school promotes student learning and involvement of campus leadership and involve distributing responsibilities to teachers who assume leadership roles. What are the budgetary implications for the campus?  Think about the contents of the vision statement and share specific examples. (NELP 6.2)
