Guidelines for Fieldwork #14
Before you being your fieldwork, read:  Top 5 Disability Issues. This article lays out some of the critical contemporary issues relating to disability rights.  Then, read It’s Time for a National Museum of Disability.  This OpEd article was written by a group of high school seniors from Massachusetts, and will serve as a model for your paper.
For this assignment, you will select an article on an issue of advocacy of interest to you from among the articles on the list provided.  Read the article, then write an opinion/editorial essay, taking a position on the issue raised in the article.  You are free to take whatever stance you wish.  This is a great opportunity to share your opinions about an issue related to the rights, status or treatment of people with disabilities!
Additional Guidelines for this Assignment
Use the usual heading for your paper.
Below the heading, add a flush-left boldface heading with the title of the article you chose.  If I can’t identify the article, I can’t grade your paper.
If you prefer, you can select an article of interest to you, but please have me check it first, no later than Friday at 10:00 pm by sending me a link to the article to me for approval, using Canvas Message.
Week #14 PromptSelect an article from the list of articles for Week 14 fieldwork provided on Canvas. Read the article and review any laws or policies mentioned. Using your knowledge of the disability related laws studied in this class, write a opinion/editorial response to the article. Your response should identify the key problem(s) the individual or group is facing and outline how you are advocating for the rights of individual or group. Be sure to cite laws or policies that support your stance.
Important!  The purpose of this assignment is to respond to and take a stand on the issue discussed in the article you select.  While you will need to describe the issue briefly as part of your paper, be careful to address the prompt.  A summary or a critique of the article will not address the prompt.  Be sure to discuss the issue described in the article.
Writing Your SummaryAfter you reflect, you will write an individual reflection on your experience, and upload it to Canvas.
Read the prompt below, and respond to it in your summary.  Your summary should be roughly two pages in length.
Your summary must adhere to the following formatting guidelines: 12 point serif font (such as Times New Roman), double spaced evenly, 1” margins, with all paragraphs indented 1/4 inch and pages numbered in the upper right-hand corner.
You do not need a title page; please use the required single-spaced heading on the first page of your summary:
