In this unit, you have learned about the philosophical concepts of personal and organizational level health literacy. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that personal health literacy is the degree to which individuals have the ability to find, understand, and use information and services to inform health-related decisions and actions for themselves and others. Organizational health literacy is the degree to which organizations equitably enable individuals to find, understand, and use information and services to inform health-related decisions and actions for themselves and others. You have also learned how plain language is a tool that can be used to effectively address health disparities related to health literacy.
Let us take this time to demonstrate what you’ve learned. For this assignment, you will develop a two page fact sheet on a health topic of your choice. Your fact sheet should demonstrate plain language writing and design principles or describe characteristics of a health-literate healthcare organization.
