Research Project: Investigating the Correlation Between Stress, Mental
Health, and Lifestyle Factors
Objective:
The primary goal of this research project is to investigate the correlation between stress,
mental health, and lifestyle (nutrition-physical activity). The aim is to understand how
various lifestyle factors—including physical activity, diet, sleep patterns, and social
interactions—affect stress levels and mental health. By identifying and analyzing these
correlations, the research seeks to provide insights into how lifestyle modifications can
potentially mitigate stress and improve overall mental well-being. The findings will
contribute to developing evidence-based recommendations for enhancing mental health
through lifestyle interventions.
Task:
• You have been asked by the student council at the Canadian University Dubai to
present research that aims to raise awareness about the topic chosen.
Research Design: You need to cover the following:
1. Questionnaire Development: Do not make your questions open ended!
• Part 1: Sociodemographic Characteristics (age, gender, major, university).
• Part 2: Levels of stress/ type of mental health issues
• Part 3: Relation with the topic chosen (Dietary Habits/ Physical Activity…) such as:
o how it affects physical activity levels
o how it affects food choices (healthy /unhealthy)
• Part 4: What are some barriers that affect stress-mental health issues (peer pressure,
scholarships, financial ….)
2. Select a sample of at least 40 participants from different disciplines and age to ensure
a representative sample.
3. Data Collection and Analysis: Organize the collected data for analysis. Create
relevant tables and graphs for the results section.
4. Writing the research project should include:
I. Introduction: – with references
✓ Discuss stress and mental health and how it affects people…
âś“ Risk factors associated with stress and mental health.
II. Methods: Detail the research methodology
III. Results: include tables, charts, bar graphs….
IV. Discussion:
âś“ Interpret data results.
âś“ Explore barriers to maintaining a healthy lifestyle and the impact of mental
health on physical activity and nutrition choices.
âś“ Analyze the potential effects of lack of physical activity and unhealthy nutrition
on overall health due to stress or mental health issues
âś“ Discuss the role of the healthcare system in raising awareness about stress and
mental health.
V. Conclusion:
âś“ Summarize key findings.
âś“ Propose recommendations for promoting a healthier lifestyle among university
students.
âś“ Provide personal critical insights into identified correlations between stress/
mental health disorders, physical activity patterns, nutrition choices, and their
potential impact on health outcomes.
